Titanium alloy rods are prone to ignition and combustion during alkaline washing, especially titanium plates. The chemical activity of titanium alloy rods in alkaline solutions is caused by the overall or local high temperature of the alkaline solution during alkaline washing in an oxidizing agent containing alkaline solution. Research has shown that there is a primary battery effect due to the potential difference between titanium and steel tools in alkaline solutions. When titanium comes into contact with steel, an electric current is generated, and the smaller the contact point, the greater the current. The excessive current density at the contact point leads to local overheating, causing the titanium alloy rod to frequently start burning from the contact point between these two metals.
To prevent and reduce the ignition of titanium alloy rods during alkaline washing, the following measures can be taken:
1. Select qualified alkaline detergent components;
2. Strictly control the temperature of alkaline solution;
3. Use high-temperature resistant coatings or high-temperature resistant insulation gaskets to insulate the alkali washed frame. If a stainless steel alkaline washing frame is used, ceramic strips or plates can be placed to separate the titanium material from the steel frame, which can also prevent fires.
During the alkaline washing process of titanium alloy rods, the alkaline solution is continuously carried away or evaporated by the workpiece. Therefore, it is necessary to supplement alkaline solution and adjust it in a timely manner to maintain a relatively stable alkaline solution composition. During the alkaline washing process, insoluble oxide slag precipitates at the bottom of the tank, affecting its good thermal conductivity. Moreover, the cracks generated by the sediment make the steel tank prone to electrochemical corrosion, greatly shortening its service life. Therefore, timely cleaning of sediment is necessary. The use of movable trough bottoms to collect debris is a common method. When it is necessary to remove sediment, simply lift the bottom of the activity tank away.
