Nickel-copper alloy is composed of 60% nickel, 33% copper and 6.5% iron. Nickel-copper alloy has good mechanical properties at room temperature and high temperature strength, high corrosion resistance and wear resistance, easy to be processed, non-magnetic, and is a good structural material for manufacturing travelling-wave tube and other electronic tubes. It can also be used as the structural material of aero engine.

At high temperature, nickel and copper can dissolve in any ratio and form a solid solution during cooling.

Nickel-copper alloys based on nickel and containing a certain amount of copper are one of the most widely used nickel-based corrosion resistant alloys. Although there are many kinds of nickel-copper alloys, their copper content is generally in the range of 10~30%. When used as corrosion resistant alloys, nickel-copper alloys containing copper ~ 28% are more widely used.


Adding copper to nickel will have a series of effects on various properties of nickel, especially corrosion resistance, mechanical properties and physical properties. The addition of copper improves the corrosion resistance of nickel in reducing medium, while reduces the corrosion resistance of nickel in oxidizing medium and the oxidation resistance in air. The addition of copper increases the strength and hardness of nickel and slightly reduces the plasticity. The addition of copper increases the thermal conductivity of nickel.


Commonly used nickel-copper alloy models mainly include NCu28., ncu40-2-1, ncu30-4-2-1.

The main varieties are tube, bar, pole, belt, cast bar and so on.


Nickel-copper alloy is mainly used to make parts that have high requirements for corrosion resistance, high-temperature fatigue resistance and other high-temperature operation, such as travelling-wave tube and magnetron. The ncu28-2.5-1.5 alloy is stable in dry gases at room temperature, but corrodes badly in aqueous nitrogen oxides, ammonia, sulfides, and halogens such as chlorine, bromine, and iodine. Ncu28-2.5-1.5 alloys are corrosion resistant in neutral, alkaline, and weakly acidic carbonates, hydrochloride, sulfate, nitrate, and acetate solutions. However, when these media contain chlorine salts of iron, copper, tin and mercury, the corrosion rate is accelerated. In contrast, the presence of chromate and glucose slowed it down.
